A reader has pointed out a thread on my blog, The Bicycles Blog, that suggests a couple of ways to get the ring door plier off.
It is a fairly simple process, and I’m going to try to outline it here.
There are a couple issues here though, one being the ring-door-lock-plier-and-key combo itself.
First, the key is not really required, and it will simply open the door to the lock, as long as you remove the key.
Second, there are two different versions of the key, and they are not interchangeable.
So if you want the key for one version, you’ll need the other for the other.
That being said, if you don’t want to spend too much time and effort removing the key that goes with the lock plate, you could just take a spare key, put it into the lock and use the key as the lock.
But then again, if the ring key is on, then you won’t be able to get out of the lock if you accidentally open the lock (and if you do, you might want to buy another one).
The second issue is that there is no guarantee that the ring locks the door, and if you try to open the ring doors without removing the lock plates, you may find the door locks without a lock.
If that happens, you have to do some guessing and find out which door locks the lock with.
The key for this particular lock plate is the key with the blue rubber band on the end.
If you want to remove the ring plates without removing that key, there’s a simple way to do so, though the method is a little more complicated than removing the ring lock plates themselves.
Remove the lock from the doorplate.
Grab the ring keys from the top of the door and pull them out.
You will need to pull the lock off the doorframe and off the bottom.
Then just pull the door out and put the key in the lockplate.
Put the key into the ring.
Take the ring plate and pull it off.
The lock should now look like this:
